DR. SEIBERT:
Seibert graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois in June of 1979 with the degrees Bachelor of Science in Visual Science and Doctor of Optometry. His first professional position was Clinic Director at the Optometric Center of St. Louis on Lindell Boulevard, where he served for 14 years. During his tenure at that clinic, the UMSL School of Optometry was established and the Optometric Center became a satellite teaching clinic for the optometry students. Dr. Seibert assumed the dual roles of Optometric Center Director and Low Vision Instructor at the School of Optometry. Low Vision Rehabilitation (see related article) was discovered to be a specialty area in shortage in the St. Louis area and Dr. Seibert pursued post-graduate training at the New York Lighthouse Low Vision Service, which equipped him to begin serving low vision patients in 1980. From that time on, Low Vision Rehabilitation became the specialty area of his particular interest. In addition to being Chief of Low Vision Services at the School of Optometry for 10 years, Dr. Seibert also served for periods of time as Low Vision Clinical Instructor at the Departments of Ophthalmology at St. Louis University and Washington University Schools of Medicine.
